Acrylic vs. Glass Aquariums

Basically there are two types of aquariums you can purchase, below are some of the advantages and disadvantages of both:

Acrylic

1. Acrylic insulates better than glass, therefore requiring less energy to maintain temperatures.
2. Acrylic is clearer than glass.
3. Acrylic tanks can be bent in a variety of shapes such as rounded corners.
4. Acrylic scratches easy, but it is lighter in weight.
5. Acrylic can withstand more of an impact than glass and is less likely to leak.
6. Acrylic is more expensive, but many come with a lifetime guarantee.

Glass

1. Glass tank weighs about 4-10 times as much as an acrylic tank of the same volume.
2. Glass will break or crack with a sharp impact.
3. Glass is easier to ship and requires less care.

Whatever you choose make sure you research the type of fish you want to keep in your tank and buy the largest tank your money you can afford. Happy fish keeping!
